How Much Does a Custom Website Cost in Perth?

The honest answer most agencies won't give you — because transparency shouldn't be a competitive advantage.

If you're Googling "how much does a website cost in Perth," you've probably already discovered that getting a straight answer is surprisingly difficult. Most agencies want you to "book a call" before they'll talk numbers. We think that's backwards. So here's the truth, from a studio that actually builds custom websites for Perth businesses every week.

The short answer

A professionally designed custom website for a small business in Perth costs between $5,000 and $15,000 in 2026. Most of our clients invest between $5,500 and $8,000 for a complete custom build including design, development, copywriting, SEO foundations, and Google integration. That's the range for a proper website — not a template with your logo swapped in, not a DIY Wix site, and not an enterprise platform you'll never fully use.

What determines the price

Every website project is different, but the cost comes down to five things.

Scope and page count. A focused five-page site (Home, About, Services, Work, Contact) costs less than a fifteen-page site with multiple service landing pages, a blog, case studies, and an FAQ section. Most local businesses need five to ten pages to start.

Level of custom design. A template-based site uses a pre-built layout with your colours and content dropped in. A custom-designed site is built from scratch around your brand, your audience, and your conversion goals. The difference is visible — and measurable in results.

Copywriting and content. Some agencies quote design and development only, then charge extra for the words on the page. We include copywriting in every project because a beautiful site with weak copy is like a shopfront with no signage.

SEO foundations. Title tags, meta descriptions, site structure, page speed, mobile responsiveness, Google Search Console, Google Analytics — these should be built in from day one, not bolted on later as an upsell.

Integrations and automation. Does your site need a booking system, a CRM connection, an AI chatbot, automated lead follow-up, or payment processing? Each integration adds complexity and cost, but also adds real business value.

What you get at each price point

Under $3,000 — The Template Tier

At this price, you're getting a pre-built template on Squarespace, Wix, or a basic WordPress theme. The design is generic, the SEO is minimal, and you're largely on your own after launch. This works if you just need a basic online presence and aren't relying on your website to generate leads.

What to watch for: subscription lock-in (you stop paying, your site disappears), limited customisation, slow load times, and no SEO strategy.

$3,000 to $6,000 — the mid-range

This is where most freelancers and smaller agencies operate. You'll get a semi-custom design, basic SEO setup, mobile responsiveness, and a handful of pages. The quality varies enormously — some freelancers at this price point deliver exceptional work, others deliver a template with extra steps.

What to watch for: WordPress plugin bloat (your site slows down over time), no ongoing support plan, and designs that look dated within two years.

$5,500 to $10,000 — the custom build (where we sit)

This is where you get a website designed specifically for your business. Custom layout, professional copywriting, SEO built into every page, fast load times, mobile-first design, and a platform that doesn't need constant plugin updates to stay secure.

At TheWorksite, our custom builds start from $5,500 + GST. This includes everything: strategy, design, development, copywriting, SEO foundations, Google Analytics, Search Console setup, and training so you understand how your site works.

For businesses that want ongoing support, our Full Works package starts from $5,000 + $249/month — that includes the custom build plus monthly care: hosting, security, content updates, SEO monitoring, performance reports, and priority support.

$10,000 to $25,000+ — the agency tier

Larger Perth agencies like PWD, Lethal Digital, and Blackbox Design operate in this range. You're paying for a bigger team (designer, developer, project manager, copywriter, QA tester), a more involved discovery process, and often a more complex build. This makes sense for medium-to-large businesses with complex requirements — eCommerce, multi-location, custom web applications, or deep CRM integrations.

What to watch for: project timelines stretching to 3-6 months, scope creep, and ongoing costs that exceed $500/month for hosting and maintenance.

Why we don't use WordPress

Most Perth web design agencies build on WordPress. We don't.

We build on modern platforms (used by companies like Figma, Dropbox, and Upwork) because they're faster, more secure, and don't require constant plugin updates to stay functional. Your site won't break because a plugin update conflicted with your theme. You won't need to pay someone $150/month just to keep the lights on.

The result: faster load times, better Google rankings, lower ongoing costs, and a site that still looks and works perfectly two years from now without being rebuilt.

The costs most agencies don't mention

Beyond the build itself, every website has ongoing costs. Here's what to budget for.

Domain name: $15-40/year. You probably already own yours.

Hosting: Included in our care plans. If you're self-hosting WordPress, expect $30-150/month depending on traffic and performance needs.

SSL certificate: Free with modern platforms. If someone is charging you for SSL in 2026, that's a red flag.

Ongoing maintenance: $0 if you're hands-on and technical. $100-300/month if you want someone else to handle updates, security, backups, and content changes. Our care plans cover all of this for $249/month.

SEO and marketing: A website without SEO is a shopfront on a street with no foot traffic. Budget $500-2,000/month for ongoing SEO if you're serious about ranking on Google. We include foundational SEO in every build and ongoing monitoring in our care plans.

How to avoid overpaying

Five rules that will save you money and heartache.

Get a fixed quote, not an hourly rate. Hourly billing incentivises slow work. A fixed project quote means you know exactly what you're paying before anything starts.

See a mockup before you pay. Any good designer should show you exactly what your site will look like before they build it. If they can't or won't, walk away.

Own your website. Some agencies hold your site hostage — you can't leave without losing everything. Make sure you own your domain, your content, and your code. At TheWorksite, everything we build is yours. No lock-in contracts.

Don't pay for features you don't need. A five-page website for a local service business doesn't need a blog, a membership area, and an eCommerce store on day one. Start lean, add features as your business grows.

Factor in the cost of doing nothing. Your current website (or lack of one) is costing you customers right now. Every week you delay is a week your competitors' websites are generating the leads you're missing.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to build a custom website?

Most of our projects go from first conversation to live site within 2-4 weeks. Larger or more complex builds can take 4-6 weeks. We move fast because we know you're busy running a business.

Do I need to provide the content?

No. We write all the copy for your website as part of the project. We'll interview you about your business, your customers, and your goals — then we write content that sounds like you and converts like a salesperson.

What if I already have a website I don't like?

We rebuild from scratch. We don't try to patch up an old site — it's almost always faster and better to start fresh with a clear strategy and modern foundations.

Can I update the website myself after launch?

Yes. We train you on how to make basic content changes. For anything more involved, our care plan clients get content updates included — just send us an email and we'll handle it.

Do you work with businesses outside Perth?

Absolutely. We work with businesses across Australia and New Zealand. Everything works seamlessly over video call — the process and the quality are identical regardless of location.

What's included in your care plans?

Managed hosting, security monitoring, monthly performance reports, content updates, SEO monitoring, Google ranking reports, priority support, and a team that actually knows your business. Starting from $249/month + GST.
